On Friday, at the beginning of the afternoon, one of the most eagerly awaited moments for the residents of Niebla begins: the departure for Lavapiés, where the Hermitage of the Virgen del Pino is located. From the early afternoon, the Simpecado cart and the pilgrims prepare in the town centre, amid the ringing of bells, the sound of drums and cheers for the Virgin, with carefully decorated carts, horsemen and families and friends gathering to begin the festivities.
In an atmosphere full of colour, music and joy, the procession leaves the town, travelling along roads accompanied by singing and clapping, accompanying the cart carrying the banner of the patron saint. The destination is the Ermita del Pino chapel, located in the natural setting of Lavapiés, an enclave surrounded by nature that for three days becomes the spiritual and festive heart of Niebla.
Saturday is the main day of the pilgrimage. From early in the morning, the pilgrims enjoy the day in their tents set up in the enclosure, sharing typical foods, conversations and moments of conviviality. At around 1 pm, the offering of flowers to the Virgin begins and at night all the lights in the enclosure are turned off and the rosary is recited. The rest of the time is spent dancing, singing and enjoying good food, with no shortage of sevillanas, Condado wine and local products. The atmosphere is cheerful, family-oriented and full of tradition.
On Sunday morning, mass is held and the future brotherhood leader is announced. In the afternoon, after enjoying an unforgettable weekend, the journey back to Niebla begins. The procession sets off for the village, followed by the pilgrims. The return journey is marked by a more emotional tone, where joy is mixed with nostalgia at the end of the festival. Upon arriving in the village, the procession travels through several streets until it reaches its destination, thus bringing to a close three intense days of faith, fellowship and celebration.
